What is Endoanal Ultrasonography (EAUS)?

Endoanal Ultrasonography is a specialized imaging test used to evaluate the anal canal and surrounding structures using a high-resolution ultrasound probe inserted into the rectum. It helps detect fistulas, abscesses, sphincter damage, and other anorectal conditions.

Why is EAUS Performed?

• Diagnosis of **anal fistula** or **abscesses**
• Evaluate **incontinence** due to sphincter defects
• Assessment of **anal sphincter injuries** post-delivery or surgery
• Preoperative planning for **fistula surgery**
• Monitoring post-operative healing

Procedure Overview:

1. Performed on an outpatient basis
2. Patient lies in left lateral position
3. A small ultrasound probe is inserted into the rectum
4. Images of anal canal, sphincter muscles, and fistula tracts are recorded
5. No anesthesia required, minimal discomfort

• Complex and recurrent anal fistulas
• Internal sphincter tears
• Anal abscesses and sinuses
• Obstetric sphincter injury (post-delivery)
